BEP’s Second Billboard Hot 100 #1 Is “I Gotta Feeling”

After a long run in the number one with “Boom Boom Pow”, the Black Eyed Peas take over the #1 spot with their second single from The E.N.D. “I Gotta Feeling”. Keeping the streak alive!

After 12 weeks, there’s finally a new song at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. But great news for the Black Eyed Peas: it’s by them, too. The Black Eyed Peas unseat themselves at the top with their latest single, “I Gotta Feeling.” The David Guetta-produced dance track drops their long-running #1 “Boom Boom Pow” to #2.”I Gotta Feeling” is only the second Hot 100 #1 for the group, which had a string of previous radio hits like “Don’t Phunk with My Heart” and “My Humps.” “Boom Boom Pow” was the group’s first single to climb all the way to the top.

The E.N.D. is #1 Despite MJ Album Sales

The Black Eyed Peas return to the top spot (Billboard 200 albums chart) there after selling an okay-not-great 88,000 copies of The E.N.D. in its third week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Three Michael Jackson sets actually did substantially better business than the Peas this past week: Number Ones moved 108,000 units, The Essential Michael Jackson notched 102,000, and Thriller scored 101,000. But due to Billboard rules barring old albums from the main sales chart, what would have been this week’s No. 1-3 by a healthy margin ended up getting relegated to the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart instead — hence the Peas’ misleading victory.

Black Eyed Peas: We’re Gonna Parachute Into Glasto

BLACK Eyed Peas want to parachute into Glastonbury wearing bikinis.

The fun-time urban outfit, who are headlining the jazz world stage on Sunday, plan to throw a huge party at Worthy Farm.

Will.I.Am told me: “We played Glasto in 2006 when we went on before Paul McCartney and slept over at Sting’s house the night before.

“We borrowed his helicopter and went via Stonehenge on the way.

“We’re gonna have to parachute in bikinis or something to beat that this time.” Read More »

Fergie’s Family Reacts to Perez Hilton Feud

Perez Hilton made headlines yesterday for claiming Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas attacked him. It turns out it actually wasn’t Will.i.am, but his manager. Although his manager already turned himself in to the Police as the attacker, Perez is still slamming him to the world.

The argument originally started when Fergie approached Perez asking him why he was slamming the Black Eyed Peas new album, and it escalated from there.

Fergie has an army of supporters and fans, including her mother Terri Jackson, who are standing by her side and are even convinced Fergie “could have taken him down.” Read More »

Black Eyed Peas shine at Virgin Festival

Black Eyed Peas saved the day. The inaugural edition of Virgin Festival Montreal got off to a slow start Friday, eventually drawing 12,000 fans to a chilly, cloudy Jean Drapeau Park - most of them coming around sunset to catch the headliners.

Luckily, the headliners delivered, bringing much-needed star-power to the proceedings. They mixed old hits (Let’s Get It Started, Shut Up, My Humps and the unifying Where Is the Love) with new (Rock That Body, Meet Me Halfway and I Gotta Feeling, off their just-released album The E.N.D.).

It was the band’s first time playing the new material in public and, aside from Will.i.am’s weird mid-show DJ set, the experiment was a success. He, Fergie, Apl.de.ap and Taboo set the party off in no uncertain terms.

Billboard Album Review for The E.N.D.

In an era of economic instability, it’s nice to know the Black Eyed Peas still believe in truth in advertising: The acronym that forms the title of their latest stands for “The Energy Never Dies,” and they more than make good on that promise, blasting through 15 high-powered rave-rap jams that rarely lack for melodic hooks or rhythmic thrust. The Los Angeles quartet’s most dance-influenced outing yet, “The E.N.D.” is best when group mastermind Will.i.am shares behind-the-board duties with David Guetta, the French disco-house producer whose “When Love Takes Over” is giving the Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” a serious run for song-of-the-summer status. In “Rock That Body” they “get a little crazy, get a little stupid” (as Will.i.am puts it), while “I Gotta Feeling” throbs as triumphantly as a BEP version of “Don’t Stop Believin’.”—Mikael Wood

And here’s the review for “I Gotta Feeling”:

The Black Eyed Peas proved with their massive international chart-topper “Boom Boom Pow” that they’re a group still to be reckoned with. The official follow-up single “I Gotta Feeling” may be their most mainstream release yet. Over a pop-throbbing beat, courtesy of the famed club hitmaker David Guetta, the Peas trade off on a simple, yet effective melody and message: “Tonight’s gonna be a good night.” Having already shown what they can do at the peak of a party, now they’re out to prove they can get it started even earlier. —Chris Williams
