Black Eyed Peas to Aid South Africans

In Johannesburg on Friday, the Black Eyed Peas announced that they will be working to aid disadvantaged South Africans through their charity, the Peapod Foundation.

The group – will.i.am, fergie, Apl.de.ap and Taboo – will spend Friday and Saturday visiting poverty-stricken townships outside Johannesburg, participating in workshops with children and meeting fans. On Sunday, they will play a benefit concert in the city.

The effort makes good on the band’s vow to return to South Africa after visiting the country in 2004 to mark its first decade of democracy.

Fergie attends Poseidon Hollywood premiere

Last night, Fergie and Josh attended the Hollywood premiere for her new movie Poseidon. Here is an except from an AP article:

“Stacy Ferguson, better known as “Fergie” from Black Eyed Peas, took a break from work on her solo album to attend the premiere. She appears onscreen, singing two songs in “Poseidon” and has a few dramatic lines.

“I couldn’t get enough of her,” Petersen confessed. “My first acting, real acting,” Fergie injected – “even though I’m only in it for two seconds.”

“But two seconds can be horrible or they can be good,” Petersen replied.”

Fergie notches up the tempo in ‘Poseidon’

In ’Poseidon’, Stacy Ferguson plays the ship’s head entertainer. “It’s a beautiful film. I met with Wolfgang (the director) and he’s one of the main reasons I wanted to do it. I mean, he’s just brilliant,” says the singer and composer, who is better known as Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas.

In addition to the traditional ‘Auld Lang Syne’, Ferguson performs two original songs in ‘Poseidon’. The ballad ‘Won’t Let You Fall’, co-written by her, Will.I.Am, Keith Harris, Byron McWilliams and Ron Fair, is “a dramatic song,” she explains.

In contrast, she collaborated with Will.I.Am and Printz Board on the Latin-tempo dance number ‘Bailamos’, which she performs in the film to kick off the New Year’s Eve party.

As far as the theme of the movie is concerned, she says, “”It’s about loving and supporting someone unconditionally no matter what happens, and I think a lot of the survivors on the ship experience that.” – Daily News & Analysis (India)

Fergie Goes Down With The Ship

The soundtrack for Poseidon, the Wolfgang Peterson’s updated remake of Irwin Allen’s seminal 1972 oceanic disaster flick The Poseidon Adventure, will hit stores tomorrow, May 9th, just four days prior to the opening of the film.

Hi-liting the album will be no less than two songs performed by Fergie, the sultry female singer/rapper from Black Eyed Peas. Fergie’s two numbers, “Won’t Let You Fall” and “Bailamos,” are not only featured on the soundtrack, but the singer/actress performs them onscreen at the beginning of the film, in her role as the sultry nightclub singer who entertains the New Year’s Eve crowd aboard the ill-fated luxury ocean liner.

“Won’t Let You Fall” was co-written by Fergie and will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas, along with Keith Harris, Byron McWilliams and Ron Fair, chairman of Geffen Records; the track was produced by will.i.am and co-produced, arranged and conducted by Ron Fair. “Bailamos” was also co-written by Fergie, will.i.am and the Peas’ Allen Pineda (apl.de.ap), along with Printz Board, Wayne Hector, and George Pajon, Jr.; the track was produced by will.i.am and Printz Board.

The soundtrack also includes “Postales,” composed and performed by DJ Federico Aubele of Thievery Corporation. The rest of the soundtrack is comprised of the original score composed and produced by Klaus Badelt, who has contributed music to Hannibal, Ned Kelly, Ultraviolet, Constantine and more. – IGN Music

Peas play for packed crowd

Since being plucked from obscurity, the Black Eyed Peas have found a great deal of success.

Formed as an underground group achieving minor success over the years, most would equate their meteoric rise to the addition of Fergie, the sole female member, in 2003. Fergie provides the pipes and sex appeal, matched with the eclectic and established blend of traditional hip-hop. There was no question that the Peas would appeal to the masses.

That was evident Tuesday night at the Schottenstein Center when the Peas took the stage in front of an audience as diverse as their music.

Black Eyed Peas Call Benefit Concert ‘Our Gift To South Africa’

Two years after Will.I.Am promised a South African crowd that the Black Eyed Peas would return for a free show, the group has scheduled the concert for May 28.

The Peas will perform for 60,000 people at Johannesburg Stadium as the first philanthropic endeavor for their Peapod Foundation.

“We fly all over the world doing concerts everywhere, and you see a big golf course and it’s all beautiful and in the next block you see cardboard houses, and it’s just inhumane if you don’t do something about that or feel obligated to help in some way,” singer Fergie explained backstage at a recent tour stop. “Some of these kids have never even seen a show in their life, and they’re gonna get to go see a concert … so it’s a beautiful thing.”
