And after listening to four tracks, I think the BLACK EYED PEAS singer could do a great job covering for GWEN STEFANI during her maternity leave.

The chorus of the first single, London Bridge, is a double for Gwen’s chart-topping song Hollaback Girl blended with NELLY FURTADO’s Maneater.

Fergie doesn’t want to be known as just a chick Pea anymore. So like her labelmate (and former tourmate) Gwen Stefani, she’s making herself the main dish by going solo.

But Fergie’s keeping the guys close by — her new video for “London Bridge,” the first single from her LP, The Duchess (due September 19), puts the singer front and center, but there’s still room for a few cameos from her Black Eyed Peas bandmates.

“We’re doing this androgynous-type thing,” Fergie said, “where [me and my girls] go into a gentlemen’s club and pull them into a bathroom and come back out in their clothes. They’re going to be dressed up really dapper and looking really handsome.”

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is on the cover of the August issue of Cosmopolitan and gets personal in an interview with the mag. She explains why she dropped the name Stacy, reveals what being in a group with three men has taught her about guys and says her onetime romance with Justin Timberlake had no future — “He was Mr. Right Now.” Fergie, who battled drug addiction while she was a member of the vocal trio Wild Orchid, credits hypnotherapy with giving her the strength to turn her life around. “It’s not some fruity thing,” she said. “It’s not like you’re going to a psychic or something. The Fashion Rocks concert is held every fall and typically kicks off New York Fashion Week. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Elton John’s AIDS foundation.

BEP has been tapped to perform as have Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Nelly Furtado, Daddy Yankee, the Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna and Scissor Sisters.

Fashion Rocks takes place Sept. 7 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The TV special will air the next night on CBS (9 p.m. EDT).

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is determined to maintain a healthy body image, even though the tabloids are constantly scrutinizing the slightest fluctuation in her weight. Fergie, real name, Stacy Ferguson, has to closely monitor her diet and has constantly struggled with body image issues.

She explains, “While I love to be in shape, I’m not going for that unrealistic goal of being super-skinny. I’m not a big fan of the stick-thin body. I had that body about five years ago, and it was a very unhealthy phase of my life. I was on (crystal) meth and lost so much weight, I was unrecognizable.
