BEP Still #1 on Hot 100 Chart

“I Gotta Feeling” is still #1 and that gives the group a total 17 weeks in the top spot with either “Boom Boom Pow” or “I Gotta Feeling”. Congrats, BEP!

Though it seems like they were overshadowed by the tremendous resurrection of Michael Jackson’s back catalog following his death, the Black Eyed Peas have managed to set a new chart record. This week marks the seventeenth consecutive week atop the Billboard Hot 100 list, which sets a new mark for a group. “I Gotta Feeling” is the #1 song in the country for the fifth week, a track that replaced BEP’s “Boom Boom Pow” after its 12 week reign in the top position. The Peas replace previous record holders Boyz II Men, who pulled 16 week streaks twice before (“One Sweet Day” in 1995-96 and an “I’ll Make Love to You”/ “On Bended Knee” tag team in 1994). The Billboard Hot 100 sets it’s tallies based on a combination of sales, radio airplay, online streams and downloads and is used to try to track what the most popular song in the country is at any given time. The Peas’ dominance has prevented Drake from advancing to the pole position, as his “Best I Ever Had” sits in the second spot for another week.

BEP Launch Academies for Bay Area Youth

The Adobe Foundation and The Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation will unveil two new state-of-the-art music and multi-media academies for youth in Oakland and Redwood City, Calif.

Morris Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula. A second Academy will be housed in a new facility operated by Art In Action, a local non-profit youth leadership program in Oakland. The BLACK EYED PEAS are all set to make chart history in the U.S. on Thursday (23Jul09) by becoming one of only three acts to score 16 consecutive weeks at the top of the singles chart.

The group’s hits Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling have spent 12 and three weeks at number one respectively, and the latter is expected to extend its stay by a week when the countdown is announced on Thursday.

A couple of months ago, the Black Eyed Peas set up shop at the peak of the Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Hopefully they are enjoying their stay! “I Gotta Feeling” stays at #1, extending the groups stay at the top. As you know, “Boom Boom Pow” had a long run as well.

On the album charts, The E.N.D. continues to sell well, coming in at #5 this week with 54,000 units sold.

BEP’s Second Billboard Hot 100 #1 Is “I Gotta Feeling”

After a long run in the number one with “Boom Boom Pow”, the Black Eyed Peas take over the #1 spot with their second single from The E.N.D. “I Gotta Feeling”. Keeping the streak alive!

After 12 weeks, there’s finally a new song at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. But great news for the Black Eyed Peas: it’s by them, too. The Black Eyed Peas unseat themselves at the top with their latest single, “I Gotta Feeling.” The David Guetta-produced dance track drops their long-running #1 “Boom Boom Pow” to #2.”I Gotta Feeling” is only the second Hot 100 #1 for the group, which had a string of previous radio hits like “Don’t Phunk with My Heart” and “My Humps.” “Boom Boom Pow” was the group’s first single to climb all the way to the top.

The E.N.D. is #1 Despite MJ Album Sales

The Black Eyed Peas return to the top spot (Billboard 200 albums chart) there after selling an okay-not-great 88,000 copies of The E.N.D. in its third week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Three Michael Jackson sets actually did substantially better business than the Peas this past week: Number Ones moved 108,000 units, The Essential Michael Jackson notched 102,000, and Thriller scored 101,000. But due to Billboard rules barring old albums from the main sales chart, what would have been this week’s No. 1-3 by a healthy margin ended up getting relegated to the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart instead — hence the Peas’ misleading victory.
