A cool bunch of rapping Peas
Hip-hop and rap no longer just spell gun-totting gangstas and hedonistic musicians flashing their bling-blings, THAM AI MEI realises after savouring a funky evening with the chart topping Black Eyed Peas on Wednesday night in Kuala Lumpur.
The odd thing about the Black Eyed Peas’ (BEP) inaugural concert at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort indoor arena was the presence of countless under-12 kids who were bobbing non-stop to the music, accompanied by their parents, of course. Standing tirelessly in front of the stage were plenty of teenagers and adults alike, and most of the girls were garbed in their best hip-hop gear complete with cargo pants and tank tops.

Black Eyed Peas make rousing Malaysian debut
KUALA LUMPUR: It was more than 90 minutes of rap, break-dance and rollicking fun when American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas made a rousing debut in Malaysia at their concert here last night.
True-blue fans of the multi-racial group came in droves and filled half of the 8,000 capacity indoor stadium of the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club to move with the rhythm and beat of the night.
“Today is a special day because this is the day that hip-hop is in Malaysia,” said Taboo, a member of the funky foursome from Los Angeles.
Taboo and fellow Peas – Fergie, Will I Am and Apl d Apl – rocked the stadium with a repertoire of tunes drawn mostly from their platinum album, Elephunk.

Zootopia offer a mixed bag of feed
Miniskirted Mean Girls and their patient parents packed Madison Square Garden Friday night for Z-100's Zootopia, the radio station's orgy of pop chart toppers.
Alt-rocker Liz Phair opened to an indifferent audience with shrill vocals and cynical eye rolls, perhaps because a reference to her 1994 hit "Supernova" fell on deaf ears. Of course, most of the crowd about 2 when the album dropped.

Give Peas a chance
Not your garden-variety hip-hop band, Black Eyed Peas bring socially conscious grooves to town tonightFor an outspoken hip-hop group whose members have met with Democratic National Committee officials to discuss the youth vote, the Black Eyed Peas are defiantly neutral on the issues. They may seem political - the band's 2003 smash "Where Is the Love?" rips the government for focusing on terrorism to the exclusion of gangs and racism inside the United States - but they're harder to pin down than a politician running for office.
"People think we're political, but really we're just socially conscious with our surroundings, and that's what 'Where Is the Love?' is," said Apl de Ap, one of the group's three rappers, in a phone interview from Los Angeles. "We're not trying to preach and be anti-war. Nobody wants to have a war, but that wasn't the main topic of 'Where Is the Love?'" So the Black Eyed Peas won't be endorsing a candidate anytime soon? "Nah."

Summer Music Mania show focuses on TV
When is a concert not a concert? When it's a made-for-TV musical event like Fox Summer Music Mania 2004 at Glendale Arena on May 20.
Though the night boasted top-tier stars such as emcee/performer Jessica Simpson, Black Eyed Peas, Ludacris and 3 Doors Down, the dynamic of the show (each act performed only two songs), changeover time between artists and the filming of introductions made the whole shebang last slightly more than three-and-a-half hours.
"The pauses between music were long," said, Steve Smith, 19, of Chandler. "But it was like being at a TV show and that was cool."

Jonny Wilkinson, manager of Tai Tokerau Disability Empowerment Advocacy Support Service, said he was disappointed when he heard the song.

Peas to please
Hip-hop band the Black Eyed Peas have hit the big time with circus-like stage shows and ‘intelligent’ dance tracks
It’s a lot easier to get close to the Black Eyed Peas than you’d imagine. The hip-hop band that’s hit it big with dance songs that sort of make you think are also friendly.
“I met the Black Eyed Peas for the first time at the entrance of a disco in San Francisco,” recalls Thai rapper Joey Boy.
“I tapped will.i.am’s shoulder and said, ‘Hey you, we’re Thai rappers and we like your songs’.”
Soon after, Joey Boy was hanging out with them and teaching them how to meditate.

Wango Tango Review
"...[Janet] Jackson's repugnant showing set the stage for the Black Eyed Peas to bring the crowd back to life, and they did so with wonderful zeal. The group's funk-doused hip-hop was cranked out by a live wire of a band, while the quartet showed they didn't need any cadre of dancers because they have their own moves. Former Wild Orchid singer Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson, with an eye-popping, gyrating, belly dancing-like midriff and gusty voice, is more than a match for her male bandmates, especially in the vocal duel of "Shut Up."

Seeing Black
Ok, ok. Madonna didn’t hear my appeal to bring her latest world tour here in Manila. But I’m so happy that Black Eyed Peas seemingly did hear my plea because the group is making a stopover in Manila on May 29 at the CCP Open Grounds to perform in Island Flava, an event which also marks the launch of the newest pop radio station to hit the airwaves: Blazin' 105.9 (for ticket details: 687-3190 to 91).
I couldn't be more excited. I first came across the group back in 1998 when it was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award. I was the publicist of MTV Asia at the time, so I had to research for information regarding each nominee. My cousin from Los Angeles sent me its CD single (as well as other nominees whose albums weren't available here) and its music sounded promising. I remember listening to it for the first time and being reminded of Jurassic 5.

Black Eyed Peas To Make Their Own 'Walk This Way' — With The Darkness
The Black Eyed Peas are going on a European vacation this summer, during which time they'll record their new album — and collaborate with a very unlikely friend.
The group is booked for a number of music festivals on the continent this season, including Glastonbury and PinkPop, so they're using their itinerary as a reason to set up shop in London and record the follow-up to their platinum smash, Elephunk.
"The cultural aspects of London are really good," singer Fergie said. "We get a lot of love there. It'll be interesting to see how that influences the music."

Wango Tango Info
Wango Tango is returning to the Rose BowlMusic festival set for Saturday
PASADENA -- No backpacks, no outside food or drinks, no strollers, no ins and outs, disposable and instamatic cameras only, lots of sunscreen, a hat or sunglasses, and a light jacket to combat the evening chill are among the guidelines for Saturday's KIIS-FM Wango Tango Music Festival at the Rose Bowl.
About 40,000 fans are expected to attend the sold-out concert that will feature more than 20 acts. The crowd will be smaller than for a UCLA football game, a Rose Bowl official said, so they don't expect any unusual traffic problems.
This is the third year the Rose Bowl has hosted the concert. The first Wango Tango was at Anaheim's Edison Field in 1998 and the next three at Dodger Stadium.

Excellent Elephunk Album Review
It makes me laugh that the moment a hip hop act drops the Bitch ho niga muthaf**ker pop a cap in yer ass, the wannabe wigas in our midst subconsciously disregard them as 'pop'... a bit like the moment a metal band writes a song you can actually hum along to and get disregarded as being corporate sell-outs. Notice the way that Outkast were worshipped based on one great summer single, when the album was jammed full of sexist lyrical cliché, and The Black Eyed Peas are written off, yet the way I see it, the unashamed enthusiasm and fun in 'Elephunk' makes BEP the true heirs to the legendary De La Soul. I say discard the inherent indie kid prejudice against anyone who has lots of hit records and gets radio airplay and just listen. This record is full of first rate rapping, first rate tunes, first rate instrumentation. Look on the surface, and you've got an album full of memorable songs, hooks that lodge in your mind... but look in depth, and it's quality from the top down.

There was no doubt where the love was in London early yesterday morning. It was at a packed Club Phoenix. L.A. hip-hop stars Black Eyed Peas kept moving and rhyming before about 1,200 fans, even with their superstar female, Fergie, hobbling on a cane.
With Fergie's bad ankle restricting her stage moves, BEP's three male MCs -- Will.I.Am, Taboo and Apl.De.Ap -- all stepped up when it came to dancing and talking.

The Black Eyed Peas
At Kool Haus
In Toronto on Tuesday
The Black Eyed Peas are at a familiar crossroads. Having collaborated with Justin Timberlake and traded their dusty soul samples for a commercial sheen and uncomplicated rhymes -- not too mention turning former pop princess Fergieinto a Pea--the onetime underground darlings Will.I.Am, Apl.de.Ap, and Taboo have been accused of selling out.
Their newfound fans, of course, don't care. Sure, they cheered for the L.A. group's still great 1998 single Joints and Jam, but they were there for last year's smash album Elephunk.
